Sunday saw the launch of our Youth Wing in Malappuram, with our members in the district conducting a meet for parents of differently abled children. The day began with registering the participants, who came along with their children, and assisting them in filling out basic information sheets on the background of the child and the family to understand situations and symptoms better.
The children were engaged in different activities like painting and other games, while the parents interacted with Jolly Johnson – H2O’s chief executive director and founding member – about the lack of amenities provided to them from both the society and the government, for the care of their children. The session ended with the parents, along with the volunteers, Jolly and panchayat member, Abdul Aziz, promising to be more active about making the children more independent, while also demanding speedy action from authorities on making them a point of focus.
The day ended with an inaugural ceremony, spear headed by Ms. Geeta from the training committee for the education of specially abled children, along with the members of the panchayat. The youth wing leads were commemorated with H2O badges by the guests of honour. Children celebrated their day by dancing, singing, and feasting themselves to mid-day snacks, arranged by our dedicated volunteers from Malappuram.
